About Jane Clifton

Jane Clifton is an actress, singer, author and general show business all-rounder. She is probably best known as Margo Gaffney in the long running TV show Prisoner.

Jane Clifton was born in Gibraltar to British parents in 1949 and emigrated to Australia in 1961. She attended school in Perth and then Melbourne before gaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from Monash University.

Her acting career spans from theatre to movies and TV, and includes roles such as Sharon in The Clinic, Fay in A Slice if Life, Lee in A Single Life and, as already mentioned, Margo Gaffney in Prisoner.

As a singer Jane is best known for her pop singles Girl on the Wall and Taxi Mary (with Jo Jo Zep). She has also fronted a number of jazz combos since 1979, and rock bands, including Stiletto, since 1970. Jane's first solo album The Marriage of Style was released in April 2003.

Jane is also an author and her first novel Half Past Dead, has been described as 'a girlie, sexy, thriller'. Her second novel, A Hand in the Bush, was recently published (April 2005).

Jane is often asked if there is anything she can't do, to which she simply replies 'Ballet and making money.'
